On the study of hydrodynamic instabilities in the presence of background magnetic fields in high-energy-density plasmas

Blast-wave-driven hydrodynamic instabilities are studied in the presence of a background B-field through experiments and simulations high-energy-density (HED) physics regime. In conducted at Laboratoire pour l’utilisation des lasers intenses (LULI), laser-driven shock-tube platform was used to generate hydrodynamically unstable interface with prescribed sinusoidal surface perturbation, short-pulse x-ray radiography characterize instability growth without 10-T B-field. The LULI were modeled FLASH using resistive ideal magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), comparing suggests that Spitzer model implemented is necessary sufficient for modeling these planar systems. These results suggest insufficient amplification seed B-field, due diffusion, alter behavior. Although ideal-MHD did not represent accurately, they similar HED systems dynamic plasma-? (=2?0?v2/B2) values less than ?100 can reduce blast-wave-driven Rayleigh–Taylor instabilities. findings validate resistive-MHD being design future studying effects plasmas.
